Book an AC Recharge Service: Beat Surrey Summer Heat on a Budget

Is your air conditioning system on the fritz? Don’t sweat it—today’s post explains how we’ve been helping Surrey drivers keep cool and cut costs on repairs with qualified AC recharge services.

Read on to find out if you qualify for an AC recharge service or call 604-503-2717 to get a free quote on any AC maintenance, repair, or part replacements.

What Is An AC Recharge Service?

As the name suggests, the term “AC Recharge” refers to the process of vacuuming out and “recharging” your air conditioning system with fresh refrigerant, then repairing any of the cracks or leaks that caused the system to fail in the first place.

This is a cost-effective way to keep your air conditioning running cool through Surrey’s scorching summer, without having to pay for a full-on system replacement.

In addition to refilling your refrigerant, every AC recharge service includes a visual inspection of the air conditioning compressor, drive belt, serpentine belt, and all accessible components for cracks, leaks, and damage. In this way, AC recharge services also help Surrey drivers spot minor signs of trouble before they turn into major damage, requiring costly repairs or part replacements.

When Should I Book An AC Recharge Service?

Many vehicles will never require an AC recharge service, but if your AC has sprung a leak, it’s only a matter of time. As soon as your air conditioning system starts pumping warm air, that means you’re out of freon, and you’ll need an AC recharge to beat the heat once again.

Why Go Pro When DIY AC Recharge Kits Are Available?

AC recharge kits are available for around $70, but they are not recommended because:

  • DIY AC recharge kits do not evacuate old refrigerants—This is the first step in our AC recharge process, and it’s an important one! Leaving moisture and stale refrigerant behind can cause problems, such as overcharging, which could cost you more to repair than you sought to save by doing it yourself.
  • DIY AC recharge kits risk refrigerant mix-ups—Most DIY canisters use R-134a refrigerant, which is found in most cars today, but not all. If you use the wrong type, it could cost you a lot. Classic cars built before 1994 use R-12 refrigerant, and some modern releases require R-1234yf. When you do it yourself, the onus is on you to get it right.
  • DIY AC recharge kits do not measure by weight—Most DIY kits use pressure gauges, which don’t show you the weight of refrigerant in the system. This means that the total amount of refrigerant you add is left a mystery, and you’re at risk of overcharging or undercharging.
  • DIY AC recharge kits do not patch leaks—Most AC failures can be traced to leaks, and that’s why we spend so much time finding and patching them up for our customers. DIY kits do not patch large leaks, even those formulated with special patching compounds, so they provide temporary fixes at best.

When you consider these risks, the purchase price of the kit, and the potential costs of repairing mishandled AC systems, it’s easy to see why most Surrey drivers prefer to go pro.
